THE WORKSHOP CONDUCTED BY
SAHODAYA SCHOOLS COMPLEX ON E.V.S.
A workshop on Environmental Studies (E.V.S.) was organized by Nagpur Sahodaya Schools Complex at St. Vincent Pallotti School, Nagpur on 9th July, 2016. The workshop was based on the theme ‘Teachers’ Professional Development Program’. It was inaugurated by Mrs. Reena Dargan, Principal of Ira International School who is also the Vice Chairperson of Sahodaya Schools Complex and Rev. Fr. Joseph Koovely, the Principal of St. Vincent Pallotti School and the Joint Secretary of Sahodaya Schools Complex. Ms. Reena Dargan emphasized that an environment has to be created for the students to motivate them to logically think and to reason. Teachers need to keep resources organised and ample teaching aids and resources should be used appropriately to explain the concepts. Teachers need to be skilful at using teaching aids.
The activity based learning program was conducted by the resource persons Ms. Sandhya Deshpande, a Science Teacher of Bhavans Civil Lines and Ms. Neelima Rai, a Science Co-ordinator for primary section from Sandipani School, Hazari Pahad. It was an interactive workshop, based on many child-friendly classroom activities. The aim of the workshop was to accustom the teachers with the developing teaching aids, strengthening their planning and posing appropriate questions to the children in order to develop a better teaching learning process.
Various activities conducted along with demo lessons and framing of rubrics. Teachers were encouraged to share the challenges faced by them while teaching and possible solutions to these challenges were discussed. This created a lively discussion amongst the teachers assembled. The teachers also shared their learning experience of the workshop with each other.
The guests present appreciated the effective workshop specially designed for classroom conditions to put a sturdy base for the teachers on learning, planning and visualizing classes.
